Today, it seems everyone wants to be famous. Famous is a very relative word. What I think constitutes someone being famous
may be quite different than what the next person thinks. I will though, argue
that the less than 30 year olds in America society are obsessed with fame. Heck,
there are a lot of 30 plus folks caught up in the mania as well. What I'm talking about is the social media
fame that people will go to extraordinary lengths to achieve.
There was a time not too long ago when most folks would
interchange rich with famous. Now I'm
sure we all know that not all rich people are famous but most famous people
were rich. Long gone are those
days. Some not think that if you get 500
likes on a picture you are famous. And for those that get thousands or even
millions of likes, hits or views, they must be rich right. Well, I think we all are pretty aware that
most of the social media famous people's incomes make them nowhere near rich.
Yet in still, people will embarrass themselves, degrade others, degrade
themselves, post nude pictures and the list goes on and on. This is all done in search of cyber
fame. Lots of people these days closely
link their self image and self esteem and self worth to their perceived
popularity on social media site like facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
I think this is utterly ridiculous. I think the majority of us that subscribe to
that notion, are sadly missing the big picture and being quite short sighted. Most fail to realize that internet post are
FOREVER! They think in the moment it is
a good idea to post/share something that
sheds an unflattering light on them.
They have yet to realize that they may be building a mountain of regret
a few years down the road. I think is
stems from the common belief by most young people that they will be young
forever and that they will have the same sensibilities they do now when they
are 50 years old.
